Ruth on VIA
I consider myself very lucky to have been a tutor on the VIA, WI Learning Hub, since 2024.
VIA grew out of Denman College, which was the embodiment of the mission of the National Federation of Women’s Institutes (WI) to educate and inspire.
During the pandemic, Denman College shifted online, and in 2024 it became the WI Learning Hub. Early this year it went through its latest very sleek transformation to become VIA, through which the WI offers an accessible and welcoming online learning platform to everyone. You can read about it in depth on their story page.
My journey began with them in March 2024 and over the last couple of years I have given a whole range of talks from AI to digital journalism. Each time the wonderful participants have wanted to know more, especially in February this year, after I was featured in WI Life Magazine, as various WIs up and down the country reached out, wanting to know about AI and about how women were the first computers.
In response to all these lovely people, I created a short questionnaire asking people what they wanted to know about. I shared it through my newsletter and VIA shared it too theirs.
The response was amazing. Over 300 people came back to us with lots of comments and ideas.
From that, I set up the co-creator group and we have been creating and exploring materials to demystify AI to answer everyone’s curiosity and concerns. One of the results, of which, will be:
Demystifying AI: How to Understand, Use, and Explain It. A 4-part course for everyday life, starts Tuesday 2nd June at 9.30am.
Over four weeks for an hour each week on VIA, we will explore what AI is and isn’t, where it came from, how to use it, how it works, and where it all might or might not lead.
Join me Tuesdays in June, live, or on demand:

I can’t wait to see you there!
